Coaching and mentoring have become increasingly recognised as powerful development processes enabling individuals and organisations to realise human potential. However, it is critical to ensure that the professionals responsible for providing coaching and mentoring are trained to national professional and ethical standards. For the experienced coach or mentor it is important to ensure effective Continual Professional Development, both in providing effective support to individual learners, and in linking coaching and mentoring interventions to strategic organisational objectives.
The Insight Coaching & Mentoring Advanced Certificate is designed for those who are experienced coaches or mentors and wish to continue developing their skills and organisational impact. It is equally relevant whether you are coaching and mentoring in the field of business, human resource development, healthcare, education, the voluntary sector or in social enterprises.
The programme is practitioner based and focused on best practice in the field of coaching and mentoring. It uses an action learning based methodology which allows you to select and tackle a Coaching & Mentoring Question at postgraduate level based on your own areas of career interest. Your selection is then used as the focus for your learning. Examples of Coaching & Mentoring Questions at postgraduate level are shown below.
You should, as part of your role, be working as a coach or mentor with at least one ‘learner’ or ‘client’ for the duration of the programme over a 9 month period. It is also likely that you will be working at an organisational or strategic level on the implementation of coaching and mentoring interventions.
You receive regular coaching support from your own Professional Development Adviser and you share your learning with others in a coaching practice group. You exchange and explore ideas and issues with peers, based on their own coaching and mentoring experience. You also attend four facilitated one day face-to-face workshop events and access published learning materials online.
You write up an account of your learning in a structured CPD workbook and this is assessed by the HCMA faculty. You are provided with supportive feedback and this leads to the award of the The Insight Coaching & Mentoring Advanced Certificate. Your work is submitted to Middlesex University where the assessment is moderated and you are awarded an accreditation certificate from the University for 40 Credits at postgraduate level. These credits may be used for progression towards Middlesex University qualifications including a Masters degree (MA Work Based Learning Studies [Coaching & Mentoring])
Middlesex University is recognised as a world leader in the field of professional development, having won a Queen’s Anniversary Prize for work based learning and this programme combines a practical, work based action learning approach as pioneered by Dr Richard Hale, with leading edge approaches to coaching and mentoring in the business, clinical and educational sector as developed by Eileen Hutchinson.
The Insight Coaching & Mentoring Advanced Certificate is mapped to the national occupational standards issued by the Employment National Training Organisation (ENTO) and is endorsed by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), the leading provider of coaching and mentoring qualifications.
